President of Studio Khara. Also active in preserving the heritage of Japanese animation and tokusatsu. Began making animation as a student at Osaka University of Arts, and has since become a defining figure in Japanese animation, film, and tokusatsu.
Best known for Gunbuster, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Shin Godzilla. Neon Genesis Evangelion in particular left a defining mark on the history of Japanese animation.
